being 'horrible' or 'being eco-friendly', or being, I don't know, 'because we care!') - and as a result either reap higher profit or suffer by reaping less, or even incurring loss. Businesses make assessments on certain decisions (e.g. From a purely business point of view 'being horrible' is only risky if it affects profit, short - long term, whatever. I think you mix up running business which is a purely (in theory) clinical operation of making profit over loss with an emotional domain (being horrible, nice, etc.). Re: We'll continue to be profit-driven until profits arrive Read a comment on Ars last night which claimed(I assume correctly) that the Reddit API(s) as they are today are not serving ads to the 3rd party apps, so it's not as if the apps can serve Reddit ads(Boost for example showed ads before being paid for, I assumed those were Reddit ads), they couldn't even if they wanted to. They probably haven't yet decided either way but it's clear they are considering it. Up until that point I had read many folks suggest just using the mobile site with adblockers and it worked fine (never tried myself). One of the admins replied and said they must of been included in a "test", and the only workaround was to either use the app or wait for the test to be concluded. Came across a post on Sunday before I stopped using it(99% of my reddit usage is using the Boost app), about a user who was asking why mobile browsing wasn't working at all, the only thing they got was directions to view in the app. Removing mobile browsing entirely may also be part of their plan.
